A team match report: GF 3-1 Gloversville

Thursday October 25
Glens Falls 3-1 Gloversville

The A team came from behind to beat Gloversville 3-1 today. The Indians started slow again, conceding a goal in the first few minutes after a poor clearance. But as the second quarter began, GF started to fly offensively and tightened up in the back. Ryan Montgomery equalized in the last seconds of the first half off an assist from Nate Spilman. Early in the third quarter, Jake Jacobs played a perfect diaganol ball to Carl Sopczyk who outran three defenders and slid it past the charging keeper. Midway through the fourth quarter, Evan McLaughlin's shot off a corner kick was saved by the Dragons' keeper but Spilman poked home the rebound to secure the victory. McLaughlin and Chauncey Southworth didn't score but created all kinds of problems for the Gloversville defense. The performance was much improved from the last two games and was a welcome way to end the home season.

Wednesday October 24
Scotia 6-0 Glens Falls

The A team was hammered 6-0 by Scotia today. GF played with zero energy whatsoever in the first half, after which they were fortunate to trail only 4-0. The Indians largely outplayed the Tartans in the second half but Scotia scored on their only two good chances after the break. Sam Butz had his best game of the season and was one of the few GF players who played well on the day.

A team match report: GF 1-3 SGF

Monday October 22
Glens Falls 1-3 South High

The A team played well in the second half but a four game winning streak was snapped by a tough South High team. Carl Sopczyk got the only goal of the game late in the third quarter off a through ball from Matt Parsons. While the Indians played well as a team in the second half, SGF's aggressiveness and speed caused GF a lot of problems. The A team had several good chances in the third and fourth quarters but some unlucky bounces and good South High defending stymied them. Ryan Montgomery was excellent in goal with 15 saves, keeping the match close.

SCORING
44'-Carl Sopczyk (Matt Parsons)

A team game report: B-P 1-3 GF

Thursday October 18
Broadalbin-Perth 1-3 Glens Falls

The A team overcame a largely disappointing performance with two late goals to beat Broadalbin-Perth 3-1. The Patriots scored in the first few minutes of the game when poor communication in the back led to a goal. This was the Indians first goal conceded all season in the first quarter. However, Carl Sopczyk chested in a Matt Parsons' corner kick late in the first quarter to even it up. The second and third quarters were also poor with the Indians struggling to spread the play out on the small field and against the big B-P backline. However, GF came out strong in the fourth quarter as they've done so often this season. Midway through the quarter, Parsons played a perfect through ball to Sopczyk who calmly slid it past the charging keeper. Parsons sealed the victory in the last minute when he took a pass from Christian Conklin at the top of the box, turned and slammed it far post. Ryan Montgomery made 10 saves in the win.

SCORING

A team game report: GF 3-0 Johnstown

Tuesday October 16
Glens Falls 3-0 Johnstown

The A team was rarely threated by Johnstown in a game they won 3-0. All the goals were scored in a first quarter where the Indians ran rampant and could easily have had several more. Nate Spilman intercepted a goal kick and slotted one past the keeper for the first goal. A little more than a minute later, sweeper Mike Kowalski played a through ball to Ryan Montgomery who rounded the keeper and scored his first goal of the year. Montgomery assisted on the third goal, playing a through ball of his own to Carl Sopczyk who cooly sidefooted it past the keeper. The second and fourth quarters were patchy, but GF also dominated the third quarter although they were thwarted in their attempts to score by solid Johnstown goalkeeping and several offside calls. Taylor DelSignore recorded the teams third shutout of the year with 4 saves.

SCORING
6'-Nate Spilman (Ryan Hogan)
8'-Ryan Montgomery (Mike Kowalski)
11'-Carl Sopczyk (Montgomery)

Glens Falls 2-1 Queensbury

The A team were victorious in a wide open 2-1 game vs Queensbury. Nate Spilman scored the first goal early in the game off a perfectly taken Matt Parsons' corner kick. Ryan Montgomery made only 5 saves in the first half (10 in the game) but nearly all of them were of the spectacular variety. Midway through the fourth quarter, Spilman played a perfectly angled ball to Evan McLaughin who made a nice run and drove it past the keeper for the winning goal. McLaughlin and Taylor DelSignore had their best games of the season.

A team game report: SGF 1-0 GF

Monday October 1
South High 1-0 Glens Falls

The A team was very competitive against a South High team that had romped over all its previous opponents. But the Indians struggled to spread the field out and had trouble generating good scoring chances. The only goal of the game was scored by South High with only 4 minutes left on a breakaway that appeared to be offside. Defenders Mike Kowalski, Billy McMahon and Mike Seeger did an excellent job containing a potent SGF offense. Ryan Montgomery was spectacular in goal and tied the all-time A team record for saves in a game with 17.
