A team game report: GF 3-0 BP

Monday September 29
Glens Falls 3-0 Broadalbin-Perth

The A team went to 3-0 on the season with a 3-0 blanking of Broadalbin-Perth. The Indians nearly scored on a sequence mid-way through the first quarter when they hit the crossbar twice in a scramble in close and the Patriots' goalie stopped the third shot. The breakthrough came when Sean Hooker played the ball from the wing to Evan McLaughlin who one touched to Kyle McMurtry who slotted it past the keeper for his first goal of the season. In the third quarter, the two combined for a nearly identical goal. Two minutes later, Sean Hooker rounded off the scoring as he headed a perfectly placed pass from Mike Kenny into the goal. Spencer Bray made 8 saves for the team's first shutout of the season.

A team game report: HF 1-6 GF

Thursday, September 25
Hudson Falls 1-6 Glens Falls

The A team improved to 2-0 on the year by thrashing Hudson Falls 6-1. HF opened the scoring when one of their players powered through the entire defense. But the Indians' defense tightened up and that goal was Hudson Falls' only shot on goal in the entire game. Tanner Sax tied it up a few minutes later with a shot that beat the keeper to the near post off a pass from Kyle McMurtry. The Indians took control of the game in the 2nd quarter with a pair of goals and dominated the rest of the game. Heath Armstrong and Sam Butz each had a pair of goals, with Mike Kenny scoring right before half time. Butz's and Sax's goals were their first ever in a Glens Falls shirt. Sean Hooker and Evan McLaughlin combined for five assists on the afternoon. John Benjamin did a fantastic job controlling the pace of the game and distributing from the holding midfield position.

Monday September 22
Glens Falls 2-4 South High

Sean Hooker scored pair of quick goals mid-way through the second quarter to give the Indians a 2-0 lead, but South High scored the last four goals to win the scrimmage 4-2. GF gave their best performance of the year so far. But they continue to need to improve their concentration and cut back on mental mistakes. Spencer Bray was fantastic in goal, making 20 saves.

Men of the match: Spencer Bray and Sean Hooker

No official stats kept in a scrimmage.

A team scrimmage report: Queensbury 2-0 GF

Friday September 19
Queensbury 2-0 Glens Falls

Although the A team fell 0-2 in this scrimmage to a good Queensbury team, they showed a vastly improved performance over the previous contest. The Indians were rampant in the second quarter but couldn't find the net. The defense, led by Joe Nichols and John Benjamin, was solid throughout. The defense only made three mistakes in the contest, but two of them led to goals. This underlines the importance of concentrating for the entire 60 minutes. The A team will need to continue its improvement next week against a quality South High team.

Man of the match: Kyle McMurtry

Note: No official stats kept in a scrimmage

B team game report: Queensbury 7-0 GF

Friday September 19
Queensbury 7-0 Glens Falls

The B team struggled in this loss to Queensbury. Evan Abess played well for the Indians and goalkeeper Patrick Round made several point blank saves.

A team game report: GF 7-1 Gloversville

Thursday, September 18
Glens Falls 7-1 Gloversville

The A team labored to a 7-1 win in their season opener against Gloversville. Sean Hooker had a pair of goals, including an opportunistic finish after the keeper fumbled a shot. Kyle McMurtry scored directly off a 30 yard free kick and set up Hooker's first goal off a corner. Jack Girard tore up and down the right flank from the back while central defenders John Benjamin and Jake Zanoni combined to limit Gloversville's scoring chances to almost none. However, the Indians will have to improve its spacing and concentration dramatically if it's to have success against stronger teams.

Note: ' means minute and () means assist so 4'-Hooker (McMurtry) means Hooker scored in the 4th minute with an assist from McMurtry.

SCORING
4'-Sean Hooker (Kyle McMurtry)

Ball boy assignments (updated 9/25)

The modified teams will be providing ballboys for JV and varsity games.

Ballboys should report to Morse Fields by 4:00 on the day of their assignment (or 12:45 on a Saturday).

Those assigned to the varsity game should introduce themselves to Coach Shaver on the varsity field (the one closest to the exit of the complex). Those assigned to the JV game should introduce themselves to Coach Turner on the JV field (the one directly in front of the fieldhouse). Or you can just ask around if you don't know the coach in question.

Players do not have to wear their soccer gear to be a ballboy. Players will be excused from modified practice on days they assigned to be ballboys and do not have to show up at Kensington. But because of this, they MUST report to Morse at 4:00 and they must serve the ENTIRE game as a ballboy. Varsity/JV games typically last until 5:30-5:45. Those who are assigned and do not show up or leave early without a valid reason will be considered as having SKIPPED practice. Players are responsible for remembering their assigned game!

If a player knows in advance he will be unable to be a ballboy on the date in question for whatever reason, he should contact Coach Farenell in advance.

Sept. 9 GF vs. Broadalbin-Perth: Kyle McMurtry and Evan McLaughlin

Sept. 20 GF vs Queensbury: Sam Butz and Heath Armstrong (varsity at high school). Mike Kenny and Tyler Mello (JV at Morse).

Sept. 26 GF vs Hudson Falls: John Benjamin and Tanner Sax (varsity), Steve Feeney and Jack Girard (JV).

Oct. 6 GF vs Scotia: Four B team players TBA

Oct. 8 GF vs Gloversville: Spencer Bray and Brandon Burrows (varsity), Nate Didio and Fran Dougherty (JV).

Oct. 15 GF vs SGF: Four B team players TBA

A note on injuries and rest

REST
Players are expected to work hard at practice. As a result, it's important that they take sufficient rest to allow their bodies time to recover. If this doesn't happen, players may become more easily injured. Players should make sure they take one day a week where they take it easy from physical activity.

INJURIES
Players should inform their coaches of any injury, however seemingly small. The coach will then determine if the player can continue or if he should rest or seek treatment. If a parent thinks that his son is hiding an injury, please inform the coach so he can determine the appropriate course of action. Do not hide your injury!

Important information about absences, getting picked up, medical stuff and other misc. (2010)

-If a player knows in advance that he is going to miss practice(s) and/or game(s) for whatever reason, please inform the coach a day or two before. If a player leaves school early because of sickness, also please email the coach if possible.

-Players are not allowed to participate in practice or a game if they miss any part of the school day because of illness or an unexcused absence.

-Please be prompt in picking your son up after games/practices or make sure other arrangements are made.

-Any asthma inhalers, bee sting kits, diabetes pumps or other medical stuff should be brought to every game and practice, clearly labeled with your son's name and left out in the open (NOT inside a backpack). If your son has an extra one, PLEASE give it to the coach to keep in the medical kit.

-Parents and players should feel free to contact the coaches at any time and for any reason. Please don't wait until problems fester. The earlier the coaches know what's going on, the earlier any problems can be addressed.

-Please note that schedules are always subject to change. Check the team calendar for the most up to date information.

Important information about academics (2010)

-Players are expected to prioritize school before soccer and to maintain reasonable grades.

-They will have to show the coaches their progress report when issued. A player with 1 D has a week to demonstrate that progress is being made to remedy the situation; if not, then the player will not play. A player with either 2 D’s or 1 F will immediately no longer be able to play until they’ve demonstrated that progress is being made to remedy the situation. But since the coaches don’t want any player to reach that point...

-If a parent thinks their son is struggling to maintain this balance or has other issues the coach should know about, please contact his coach. Coaches will be happy to make accommodations for any player who needs extra academic help.
